Impact

Red Kite Adventures aims to make a positive impact through our service work, learning outcomes & sustainability.

Learning Impact

Red Kite Adventures are designed with a learning focus. We work with schools to determine learning outcomes that match your programmes and goals.

Service Impact

All of our adventures provide an opportunity to engage with service work. The service projects are authentic and locally driven.

Sustainability Impact

As well as being the key theme to all our adventures we also aim to make a positive impact on sustainbility beyond the trips themselves.

Adventures offers students unique and enriching learning opportunities that go beyond traditional classroom experiences. They will engage with hands-on projects that enable the application of their knowledge and skills directly, with a tangible impact. Interactions with local communities and experts will provide an authentic context for understanding the complexity of sustainability issues at a local and global scale.

Transdisciplinary Learning

The adventures deal with issues and solutions that are transdisciplinary in nature. The sustainability concept is the main theme of all of our adventures. Other concept-led learning outcomes could include interconnectedness, systems thinking, or social equity to name just a few. The trips would also make an exceptional part of any service learning programme.

Subject Based Learning

There is plenty of scope to tailor the learning outcomes of the trips to specific subject areas and topics. Geography, Biology, Economics, and Environmental Systems are obvious examples but by no means the only relevant subjects. We can work together to prioritise the learning outcomes to suit your students.

Adventures to fit all programmes

Individual students could use the trips as a source of inspiration and research for any projects such as A-level Extended Projects or the IB Extended Essay.

The trips all align with the IB philosophy and their CAS programme. The trip itself is a CAS experience but students could turn it into a CAS project if they expanded their connection to the projects beyond the trip itself.

Our adventures can provide authentic context for sustainability related units in vocational courses such as the Agriculture, Land Management and Production T Level or BTEC Forestry & Arboriculture.

Service work is an essential element to all of our adventures. This provides the students with direct engagement in sustainable development issues. This hands-on approach allows them to witness the challenges faced by communities first-hand, gaining a deeper appreciation for the complexities of these issues. It also enables students to build personal connections with the people in the local communities.

Making a Difference

Our adventures have the potential to be a transformative experience for both the students involved and the communities they engage with. For students, it offers a unique opportunity for personal growth and learning. Moreover, by immersing themselves in the communities, they gain a deeper understanding of societal issues and cultural diversity. On the community side, the projects bring much-needed support and resources, often addressing pressing local challenges.

Service Learning

Our adventures can be a major part of a school's service learning programme. Service learning is an educational approach that combines community service with academic instruction, providing students with real-world experiences that enhance their learning and understanding of various subjects. It is a form of experiential education that goes beyond traditional classroom-based learning and actively engages students in addressing community needs. Students apply their knowledge and skills to tackle real issues and challenges faced by communities, nonprofits, or other organisations

Making Local Connections

Whilst we hope that schools and individuals stay connected to the projects from our adventures, for more than just the duration of the trip, we can also help make connections to linked causes closer to home. When studying rainforest regeneration in Indonesia, why not connect with the reforestation work of the Forestry Commission? If inspired by the work on animal conservation then students could support their local wildlife trust. Volunteering is proven to have a positive impact on our wellbeing, our adventures chould just be the start of a journey.

We aspire to make a positive impact on the sustainability of our planet through our long-term connections with our project providers as well as making links with local projects in the students' own communities. Our learning outcomes are geared towards sustainable development and the carbon offset plan will see students commit to taking responsibility for their actions.

Carbon Offset Action Plans

The carbon footprint of our trips cannot be ignored. We can help all students who become Red Kite Adventurers, commit to an action plan to offset the footprint of their trip using tools such as the WWF 'My Footprint' App.

Local Action Possibilities

We can help students and schools make connections with service work closer to home. This can allow more of the school community to be involved with the sustainable development work. It should also provide a platform for those who take part in the trip to make a difference in their own communities.

Our Sustainability Actions

Where possible we work with local service and project providers. We prefer to use local guides as they provide authentic context whilst also saving the footprint of sending overseas guides. Our itineraries seek eco-friendly accommodation with low-impact travel options. Where possible we use local, sustainably sourced food and limit the use of plastics. We endeavor to organise smaller group trips to minimise the impact on the local ecosystems and communities.
