Food Adventure Consultant

This adventure has been inspired by Chris Lord, the founder of the social enterprise 'Lordy's Thrive Kitchen'. Chris is a culinary expert and passionate advocate for sustainable, health-centered cooking. At 23, Chris was diagnosed with a rare optic nerve condition that led to his visual impairment, a life-changing experience that inspired his dedication to food education and well-being. Before launching Lordy's Thrive Kitchen, Chris was a food teacher for 20 years. His passion for travel was inspired by spending 10 of those teaching years in a school in Hong Kong.

His journey has fueled his commitment to making a positive impact through cooking and creating nutritious, vibrant dishes inspired by local ingredients and sustainable practices. Through Lordy’s Thrive Kitchen, Chris combines his culinary skills with a mission to promote healthy eating and empower others, especially those facing personal challenges, to thrive.

With 20 years of experience teaching food and leading numerous international trips for his food and hospitality students, he has curated an adventure with the perfect balance of hands-on cooking activities with visits to farms and food producers. Thereby providing an ideal enrichment experience for any food student.

Sustainability Focus

The main focus of this adventure is of course focused around sustainable approaches to food. We take you on the 'farm to fork' journey exploring organic farming, local production and traditional methods of food preparation.

You will also get first-hand experience of the traditional way of life in rural Romania to see how people can live sustainably and preserve their heritage.

On this adventure, we will discover some of the work of Foundation Conservation Carpathia. They aim to create a self-sustaining ecosystem, which benefits nature & people whilst mitigating climate change. Here you will spend time at their organic farm and sustainable tourism-focused accommodation.

LOCATION

Romania is nestled in southeastern Europe. This adventure takes you from the capital of Bucharest to the Carpathian Mountains and the Transylvanian Plateau. History, nature and sustainability converge to make an unforgettable adventure. Direct flights are available to its capital city, Bucharest from several UK airports.

For the Food & Culture Tours we offer 5-day and 10-day options. Each tour starts in the capital, Bucharest but there are options to return from cities further north to enable us to visit more of what Romania has to offer.

This adventure will provide you will hands-on food experience that will help to develop your own cooking skills.

Dedicated cooking workshops will focus on traditional Romanian food and some of their traditional methods of preparing the food. There are workshops on main courses, desserts, cheeses, jams and even a session on how to decorate gingerbread

Cooking skills

Sustainable agricultural practices feature heavily in this adventure. As well as the organic agroforestry with the Carpathia Foundation you will be able to visit a commercial cheese factory and blueberry farm. You can also take a trip to a local sheepfold and milking cow farm.

You also see how the raw materials are processed into jams, cheese, honey and beer. The traditional methods and lifestyles provide a sustainable approach to food.

This adventure has so many activities in the itinerary there is no time to worry about finding things to do. There will be some time to relax in the evenings as well as hold some reflection and education sessions.
